Ginger Land-van Buuren holds a B.A in Music from Portland State University and a Graduate Certificate in Opera Performance from Bel Canto Northwest. Where she received training under the guidance of Dr. Ruth Hobson and Barbara Hann. “Soprano Ginger Land had the unenviable task of singing two of the most dazzling coloratura displays in all opera as the ‘Queen of the Night, the second of it which was a thrill and had many in the audience on the edge of their seats” stated The Oregonian. The Willamette Week reviewed her performances favorably including, “The crowd vocal favorite was undoubtedly guest alum Ginger Land as the evil Queen of the Night who negotiated the trill landmine of ‘Zum Leiden bin ich auserkören’ with consummate control.”
Before moving to Las Vegas from New York City Ginger was a Portland Opera Resident Artist. While in NYC Ginger was well received by The New York Times and Opera News in the New York debut of An Incomplete Education, with The Bronx Opera, in which she sang the lead role of Gontron le Comte. “The Chabrier is a less complex work emotionally and Mr. Spearman and his singers Ginger Land as Gontran and Julie DeVaera as Hélène sang it elegantly and directly.” Stated the New York Times. Opera News wrote, “Charming in travesty, live-wire Ginger Land brought an unconventional but sparky, high soprano to the confused Gontran.”
“Quality of performance and consistent execution brings star power up front along with compassion, character, humor, and wit. Ginger Land can twinkle on command” wrote New York City magazine, Talent in Motion. In her professional operatic career Ginger performed with Palm Beach Opera, Dicapo Opera Theater, Pacific Opera, Opera In The Heights, Natchez Opera Festival, Portland Opera, Opera Astoria and the National Lyric Opera, singing the roles of Queen of the Night, Lucia di Lammermoor, Donna Anna, Madame Goldentrill, Constanza, Gilda, Cunegonda, Miss Wordsworth, Violetta, Musetta, Gianetta, and Nella among others. Her ability to command a stage in any role was reported by Time Out New York for her performance of Gianetta in Elixer of Love with New York City Opera who stated, “Ginger Land is outstanding as the bubble gum chewing sinewy blonde WAC who nearly stopped the show with a hilarious, hip-gyrating, flag-signaling, vocal routine.” As well as by Callback News who reported that “Ginger Land breathes life into ‘Woman with a Hand Mirror’ with her vocal gymnastics and quirky stage presence (Postcard from Morocco).”
Ginger also performed in concert across the country with her TechnOpera band OperaRisque’. Making their television debut on America’s Got Talent for two seasons. Young and energetic she (Ginger Land) sings a wonderful and touching ‘Mr. Snow.”

After moving to Las Vegas with her husband Christiaan, Ginger founded Vegas City Opera (originally Sin City Opera) as a new voice in the emerging Las Vegas arts landscape. While performing for the company, Ginger has been reviewed as a local talent who knows how to make opera for our community. As stated by Las Vegas Weekly, “The role of Ké-ki-ka-ko normally played by a man, was instead handled by Ginger Land-van Buuren who had fun playing off the other “Diva’s” for supremacy. Her singing was superb (as was everyone’s), simultaneously carrying the thrust of the operetta and the post-modern character kitsch around it. Sin City Opera (dba Vegas City Opera) pokes fun at it but has enough talent to make it shine as art, too.”
Ginger is responsible for the programming for Vegas City Opera and the creation of community engaging events. Supporting local artists and original concepts for opera as theater, Ginger has been instrumental in the professional development of many professional artists. She also produced the award-winning movie “The Vegas Ring” during the pandemic shutdown, based on Richard Wagner’s Ring Cycle, which kept contracted local artists working safely throughout 2020. With Vegas City Opera, Ginger also created the “Voices of Women Concert Series,” to promote female singers, composers and historical figures. Her latest series “Soireé Eclectic,” presents the collaboration of local talent across any genre in working together in the creation of new works or presentations of updated classic works in the short form.
As a teaching artist, Ginger has been a music educator for over 25 years working with K-12 and IDD students. As well as young adults, Ginger has created and executed numerous Creative Aging programs in Southern Nevada and is a frequent arts panelist for The City of Las Vegas, Nevada Arts Council and the Entertainment Fund (previously the Actor’s Fund). Within her extensive teaching background, Ginger created therapeutic modules using the voice and the vibrational impact of music on the body for mental wellness, as well the use and development of one’s vocal power in increasing empowerment and healthy boundaries in students.
Currently Ginger is pushing the boundaries of the Las Vegas classical music scene through new and exciting chamber works by modern composers. Bringing to life works by Legetti, Cage, Crumb, Heggie, Beach, Libby-Larson, Del Tredici and Previn never presented to a Vegas audience.
